EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) are essential components of creating a progressive and respectful work environment within UBC's Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and UBC Information Technology (IT).

With UBC IT Human Resources, and in partnership with the Equity & Inclusion Office and UBC Central Human Resources, we are committed to transforming our practices to improve our workplace and advance the broader initiatives of the university: to build a community in which human rights are respected, and equity and inclusion are embedded in all areas of work.

To ensure we start from a strong and shared understanding, we developed the following vision, mission and definitions of equity, diversity and inclusion within the context of our own unique workplace.

Vision

An inclusive, welcoming environment that values and celebrates equity and diversity.

Mission

To remove barriers to full participation, create a diverse workforce and build a sense of belonging.

We want to hear from you

The EDI Committee would like to hear your suggestions on how we can help promote and celebrate equity, diversity and inclusion within your team or within the portfolio at large.

Individuals have access to growth, opportunities, and treatment according to their unique needs.

Diversity

Team members have a variety of backgrounds lived experiences and perspectives.

Inclusion

Individuals feel supported, valued and respected at work.

UBC IT EDI Committee

Initiated by UBC IT HR, UBC IT and the OCIO, an EDI Committee was established to develop and operationalize an IT Inclusion Action Plan to align with the Office of Equity and Inclusion and UBC's broader equity and anti-racism commitments. Voices and perspectives from across the portfolio meet to identify the best opportunities to advance IT's EDI priorities and build an inclusive workplace for all.

UBC IT & OCIO Inclusive Action Plan

UBC IT & the OCIO is currently engaging in a proactive planning process that intentionally considers our resources, infrastructure, incentives, and accountability needs to determine how best to position our teams to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in a sustainable and iterative way.

The UBC IT Inclusion Action Plan will outline which of UBC's Strategic Equity and Anti-Racism Framework objectives we will focus on and the specific actions and initiatives we will implement to support these goals. An important part of this plan includes the ongoing tracking and reporting on our progress and shared learnings to support the continuous improvement of our efforts to ensure that UBC IT provides an inclusive, welcoming environment that values and celebrates equity and diversity.

More details on this plan and our progress will be shared soon.
